I grew spinach last year in a window box in the peak of summer, they grew well , but also ended up with a horrible aphid infestation. I had to throw them all away. The next batch I tried in the fall and they grew quite well. So that got me to think that maybe they do better in cooler weather.

So this year these are the varieties I am growing this spring:

Baby leaf spinach Catalina from Renee’s Garden

America Spinach from Seeds of Change.

I sowed them last week in window boxes and they have sprouted already , here they are:
